They require almost daily mowing and watering; they need frequent fertilizing, veticutting, winter overseeding, aerating, and an occasional application of sand and top dressing. This is why most home owners, due to sheer frustration, end up tearing their real grass putting surface out. To create a ball speed that is required of tour greens, you need to fill the turf fibers with sand and top dress right up to the top of the fibers.
